“Tending to Roots, Cultivating Futures.”

Who We Are

Mission: At the Center for Seeding Home we are healers, creators, and protectors tending the roots - of lineages and landscapes - so that we, local and diasporic communities, can return home to ourselves, to one another, and to the living world.

Vision: We believe in a world where we are all in right relations. Where ancestral voices across diasporas sing together as seeds are planted, land is honored, water is protected, and stories are told. Operating from a place of interdependence, wholeness, and kinship rooted in collective liberation and balance for generations to come.

Purpose Statement: The Center for Seeding Home is a worker self-directed collective of healers, creators, protectors, and culture bearers planted in Uetvmkv (wee-dum-guh) / Wetumpka, Alabama, rooted in service to remembrance and belonging. We move as a living convergence of ancestral knowing and present-day practice, tending the work of repair across body, land, and spirit.

With holistic, culturally sustaining education and research grounded in ancestral wisdom, we restore relationships that have been fractured – between people and place, between memory and future. We preserve story as medicine, grow foods that carry cultural consciousness, and steward seeds as living inheritance. We honor watersheds, waterways, and land as kin, and commit ourselves to their protection, restoration, and continuity.

We support regional and diasporic communities in reclaiming foodways, land stewardship, and cultural knowledge, weaving pathways back to belonging and balance. In all we do, we move toward wholeness, where memory is revived, relationship is renewed, and Home is fully embodied.

A note on our name: The Center for Seeding Home honors the teachings of “oli.” Oli is a Cuyonon word meaning to come home, or to repair, and is the root word of “maolian” which means to get well. We recognize that coming Home, to ourselves, to the Mother, to one another, is our only path towards wellness, and the work we do seeds that.
